Programs and Service Projects
Block of the Month
At each guild meeting one or two block patterns are made available to the membership. Members are encouraged to complete one or more of each block and bring the completed blocks to the next meeting. The finished blocks are then used to make quilts which are given to Women's & Children's Horizons. This program is a great way for new members to get involved and also learn new skills.
Comfort Quilts is one way the Guild gives back to our community. We make small quilts from donated fabrics to give to needy people. Dedicated monthly workers cut squares and assemble packets for quilt tops. Members take these kits and sew tops. The entire guild works once a year at a regular monthly meeting to assemble the quilts. The quilts are given to local schools, fire departments, homeless families, veterans and seniors; sometimes they are able to be part of disaster relief outside of the local community. Comfort quilts meets at St Catherine's Commons on the second Tuesday of each month from 1:30 - 4:00pm. We make and donate approximately 140 quilts a year.
Completed comfort quilts ready for donation
Each guild member is asked to contribute a handmade quilted item or an item made of fabric that can be sold at the Guild's booth at any of the fall/winter craft fairs in which we participate. Members unable to contribute an item to sell are asked to make a $25 contribution to the Guild. Members are also needed to man the booths at these craft fairs. Money raised at the craft fairs helps to offset the cost of our annual quilt show at the Kenosha Public Museum and also helps to pay for our monthly speakers. For a list of craft fairs in which we are participating, please visit our Craft Fairs page.
