Monthly Meeting Schedule

This page is a quick snapshot of what is planned for our guild meetings. We typically meet at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 8760 37th Avenue, Kenosha on the first Monday of each month, March thru December. Please check our Guild Calendar for the most accurate dates & locations. â€‹Guests are welcome at our meetings for a small $5 entrance fee.​

​April 7, 2025 - Threads, What's the Big Deal?

Speaker Nina Clotfelter will teach us all the things we didn’t know we needed to know about thread!  Nina is an educator for WonderFil Specialty Threads and is here to share her knowledge.  Learn about thread weights, ply, specialty threads and how to work with them.  You will leave full of information! Nina will also be teaching a class on thread painting. Members should contact Susan Binzel or Peggy Cairo for more information.

May 5, 2025 - SQG Spring Banquet

TWe will celebrate the end of our guild fiscal year with a banquet at Ruffolo's Special Pizza II, 3931 45th Street, Kenosha. 5:30 pm cocktails (cash bar) and 6:00 pm dinner. This dinner is for guild members and specially invited guests. Cost - $20. Members can sign up and choose their entree at the March or April meetings. There will be a brief business meeting and Show & Tell.

June 2, 2025 - Upcycle Quilting; Thinking Outside the Block

Have you ever seen some amazing fabric in a thrift store and wondered what you could do with it?  Or saw a jacket or skirt that begged to be showcased in a new way?  Join us for guild member Kate Watling’s talk on upcycle quilting. She will talk about how she came to upcycling and why she does it. She’ll talk about what she looks for in her thrift items and why she looks at some stuff and not others. She’ll share where she gets ideas on how to upcycle. Come join us in thinking outside the block!

 

July 7, 2025 - Quilt Show Judging, Make Your Entry the Best It Can Be

Margaret Fisher, last year's judge for our annual quilt show, will present information that will help you make a great entry and reveal what today’s progressive judging of quilts and fiber arts entails. Entering your artistic handiwork in a show or competition is a positive learning experience.  

Everyone will benefit from understanding what judges find important in the process of recognizing excellence.

August 4, 2025 - Guild Picnic

​Buckle up for a fun lecture with Catherine Redford as she takes you on a humorous, educational, and interactive adventure, including a game with prizes! Catherine will take you on a trip around the globe with her quilts. Discover how she found her inspiration, the stitches she used, and the finishing techniques she employed in her quilts. Go home ready to embark on your own creative journey! An all day Introduction to Folk Art Embroidery class will be offered on Tuesday, September 9. More information coming soon.

October 6, 2025 - Quilt Appraisals, What Goes Into Them?

Do you know your quilts could have value? Why do you need an appraisal? What’s the purpose? How do we determine value? Is there more than one kind of appraisal? Whether it’s old or new, speaker and AQS certified appraiser, Cathy Glover will explain how values are determined. We will also offer quilt appraisals during the day (Oct 6th).   You will need to pay for the appraisal at the time of your reservation.  Verbal appraisal is $35 and written is $60. More information on how to make a reservation will be available soon.
